Dr. Smith Lawson joined Summit in August of 2019 to provide both psychological assessment and therapy services.

She received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia. Meghan earned her doctorate in Clinical Child Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children. Meghan’s postdoctoral training focused on assessment and therapy with children who have developmental disabilities.

Meghan specializes in conducting psychological assessments, including evaluations for mental health issues, developmental disabilities, and school admissions. Within both assessment and therapy domains, Meghan often works with youth who have anxiety, depression, trauma, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD).

Meghan uses a number of therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Behavioral Parent Training (BPT), and Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). Meghan emphasizes using goals and ongoing assessment to inform therapy planning. She engages in parent consultation and family therapy to optimize therapeutic gains.

Meghan’s personal interests include traveling, hiking, reading, and spending time with her family and golden retriever.
