- M.S., Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University, 2022
She specializes in treating children in early and middle childhood. Sarah received her Master’s degree in Mental Health and Rehabilitation Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University and completed her residency and training at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in Norfolk, Virginia. Her training focused on evidence-based therapies for children with mental health diagnoses and often co-occurring acute or chronic illness, trauma, or disability. Sarah’s areas of expertise are anxiety, depressive, behavior and attention-related disorders, and adjusting to life transitions. Her work also focuses on addictive or problematic gaming and social media use.
In working with children and families, she utilizes evidence-based therapies, including Parent Management Training, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and MATCH-ADTC, a modular approach to therapy for children with anxiety, depressive or behavior-related disorders. Sarah believes in including caregivers in every step of the therapeutic process and providing them with the information and skills to best support their child. Sarah understands that starting therapy can feel uncertain and overwhelming, and so she is dedicated to creating a welcoming atmosphere and explaining all parts of the process.
Formerly, Sarah spent over a decade working in the corporate sector, both in magazine publishing and tech. Over time, she discovered a passion for mental health and in 2020, pivoted in her career to train as a child therapist. Sarah is originally from Virginia and received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia in 2008. In her free time, Sarah enjoys exploring the food scene in Richmond, spending time with friends and family, learning to play mahjong, and being a cat Mom to her tabby cat, Grace.
